The Groton History Center and the Groton Public Library are celebrating Archaeology Month with a program at the Library on Saturday, October 8, from 2 to 4pm. It’s called “What’s in Your Backyard?” Have you ever found something old, an arrowhead or old tool, while digging for a garden or strolling in the backyard? We want you, young and old, to bring any artifacts you have found in the Groton/New England area to our event. Two professional archaeologists, Marty Dudek and Mike Roberts will analyze and give feedback on what you found. Marty is Senior Project Manager and Principal Investigator for Commonwealth Heritage Group. He conducted a tour of the old soapstone quarry in 2012 and spoke in 2014 about early Groton industry. Mike has spent the past forty years as a Heritage and Sustainability professional and ran his company Timelines here in Groton. After Marty and Mike talk about archaeology in Groton and look at our “finds”, we will have refreshments and more discussion.
All events are free thanks to a grant from the Commissioners of Trust Funds. Any donations to support The Groton History Center will be gratefully accepted
