"How to Research the History of Your Old House" @ Sibley Hall at the Groton Public Library | Groton | Massachusetts | United States

The Groton Historical Society asks you to join them on Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 at 7 P.M. in Sibley Hall at the Groton Public Library for a program, featuring Carl Flowers, the author of the recently published Groton’s Anonymous Mistress, a fascinating and very well researched history of his 1722 home on Dan Parker Road. Carl will present a slide show describing some of the history of his house and the process by which he uncovered its remarkable story. Groton Historical Society staff will be on hand with information and sources that can enable you to learn the history of your own home.

Carl became the Mistress’s owner in 1980 upon the death of his Aunt Esther and Uncle Elmer. He has made improvement to the Mistress’s 133 acre domain so that a living can be made by farming there just as the residents have done over the last 291 years. In 1998 Carl took and early retirement from his job in south Florida as a history teacher to become a full-time occupant of the Mistress. Carl has a B.A. and M.A. degree in American history and has received several awards during his teaching career. He has had articles published in various magazines and historical journals.

Refreshment will be served. Autographed copies of the book will be available for sale.
This program is free and open to the public thanks to a grant from the Town of Groton’s Trust Funds’ lecture fund.
